The second cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute had a similar theme to the first; boosting local production.
At a time when most countries in the world are developing nationalist policies, Cameroon’s policy option is to boost local production in order to reduce dependence.
During the cabinet meeting of 28th February 2019, PM Joseph Dion Ngute instruction government to reduce the amount of food stuff imports, increase local production of fish, rice, maize and dairy products.
The Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbairobe, and his counterpart of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taiga highlighted the fact that
Cameroon has the capacity to produce what it consumes.

The country consumes nearly 500 thousand tons of fish per year but national production is estimated at only 270 thousand tons creating a gap of 230 thousand tons.
The situation can be reversed by reaching out to the private sector, providing training and logistics, the Minister indicated.

حليب
The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries proposes the provision of high-performance cattle to boost milk production. The stressed on the importance of “genetic improvement of the cattle,”.

أرز

Cameroon produces only 105 thousand tons a year but demand stands at 470 thousand tons. The production is more than 350 thousand tons. The Minister of Agriculture, said more than 55 thousand hectares will be developed by 2021-2022. High yield seeds that produce 6 tons per hectare will be used to fill the deficit.
